It didn't begin in a cosmetics lab. It began in anatomy.
Lycopus lucidus has been used for centuries to cool and calm the skin. What it had never been given was a structural explanation โ until an anatomist asked the question differently.
A plant with a long history
In traditional use, Lycopus was applied to draw heat out of the skin and settle irritation. Effective, but never explained โ the reason it worked stayed unexamined.
An anatomist's question
The research behind this patent was led by a professor of anatomy โ a field concerned with the structure of tissue, not with cosmetic formulation. The question was structural: why does thin, immature or compromised skin react so strongly to what touches it?
A composition built on the answer
The extraction method and the composition were then designed around that answer, rather than around the plant's reputation โ and registered as a patent held by Custics.

Scientifically Proven to Restore Deep Skin Layers. Lycopus Lucidus Leaf Extract penetrates beyond the skin surface and delivers restorative effects deep within the dermal layers. Application visibly repaired damaged tissue and reduced inflammation, confirming its efficacy in soothing sensitive skin.
Where sensitivity begins โ and where Lycopus acts.
Skin sensitivity is a chain reaction. Before redness ever appears, two intracellular signalling pathways decide how loudly the skin will respond.
External trigger
Friction, dryness, heat, environmental irritants
NF-ฮบB & MAPK
The alarm switch โ activation of the response
Inflammatory response
Cytokine release, redness and heat
Reactive skin
Visible sensitivity, discomfort, itch
Turning the alarm switch down.
In cellular studies, Lycopus lucidus leaf extract reduced the activation of both signalling pathways that govern the skin's sensitivity response.

Phenolic & Flavonoid Complex for Skin Soothing and Recovery. Extensive research has demonstrated that Lycopus Lucidus Leaf Extract directly interacts with cellular signaling pathways involved in skin sensitivity and inflammation โ providing strong evidence that it acts at the very first stage of the skin's sensitivity response, the "alarm switch," effectively calming excessive reactivity and restoring balance.
Three independent studies. One consistent finding.
The soothing mechanism of Lycopus lucidus leaf extract has been examined across separate research groups and separate models โ and the results point the same way.

Study 1: Min et al. (2021), Molecular Medicine Reports. This study used an animal model designed to simulate highly sensitive skin conditions. It was confirmed that the activation of NF-ฮบB and MAPK signaling within the skin tissue was significantly reduced.
Study 2: Shin et al. (2005), Archives of Pharmacal Research. This study revealed that Lycopus Lucidus Leaf Extract reduces the secretion of inflammatory substances from cells responsible for triggering immediate skin sensitivity reactions โ soothing already activated responses while also helping prevent the initial cascade of sensitivity.
The extract behind Lesstopy is patented.
Lesstopy does not license this botanical from a supplier. The composition using Lycopi Herba extract as an active ingredient is registered as a patent held by Custics, the brand's own company.
